After We Lost Paradise

Book Discussion: After We Lost Paradise, by Mohamed Omar Ganady.

About the Discussion

Wekalet Behna hosted a discussion and signing of the book "After We Lost Paradise: On the Critique of Culture, Politics, and Everyday Life" by writer Mohamed Omar Ganady, with writer Huda Omran in attendance, and the encounter moderated by poet and translator Abdelrahim Youssef.

The book is not an attempt to reclaim paradise, nor merely a search for what we have lost; it is an attempt to understand the conditions of our existence, by thinking through concepts that seem "everyday," such as home and work. Yet this thinking represents a return to politics in its most intense and honest forms and representations. Politics, after all, is the way our social life is organized.

The book's chapters address several key themes and concepts in our reality and everyday life, such as: home, work, family, the body, the city, happiness, and others.
