Beyond Borders
A talk and discussion with Saba Innab, titled: Tread Lightly: Building as Demolition, Demolition as Building (Part Three)
About the project
Through building two spaces and moving between them, this talk explores layers of knowledge embedded in place and its possibilities for resistance. The first space is the land, imagined as a source of continuous knowledge resisting erasure. The second is the museum, imagined as a “colonizer.” The first takes shape in the domestic section of the traditional Palestinian peasant house: the cube and the dome, rethinking spatial relations between what lies above and below ground.
Saba Innab
Saba Innab is a Palestinian architect, artist, and researcher living and working between Beirut and Amman. Her multidisciplinary practice engages with questions around imaginaries of land, patterns of building and dwelling, and the temporality of displacement and exile under occupation and the structures of colonial and extractive systems. Using historical research, drawing, mapping, model-making, and spatial interventions, Innab explores states of oscillation between the temporary and the permanent — politically and philosophically — and their spatial and poetic traces in language and architecture.
