Offscreen, The Shadows
Film Screening and Discussion with Gustavo de Mattos Jahn and Anna Dubbosc

About the Event
Wekalet Behna hosted a screening of Shadows, Outside the Frame on Thursday, October 22, followed by a discussion with the filmmakers: Brazilian artist and filmmaker Gustavo de Mattos Jahn and French writer Anna Dubbosc.

Film Synopsis
A French writer and a Brazilian filmmaker embark on a train journey across Italy, marked by slowness, gentleness, and the atmosphere of summer. The journey stretches from Milan to Venice, passing through Rome, Lecce, and Bari. Originally planned as a trip during which Gustavo intended to film, Anna suggested that they make a film together. Following the rhythm of the train, the film takes its time at each stop, surrendering to the sway between wakefulness and sleep. It moves between train stations, squares, and old apartments, capturing passing faces and weaving together still shots with fleeting landscapes glimpsed through the windows. Amid these observations, dreams begin to emerge, as does love in a moment of exhaustion. The journey redefines the distance between the two lovers, despite the shared route that brings them together. Between the words Anna works with and the images Gustavo engages with lie the same fragile bridges and deep fissures that may exist between two people, or even between two moments in the life of a single person.
