Essence and Appearance Workshop
Parallel Events: " As Far as the Eye Can See" Exhibition.
About this Workshop
The Crystalline School is a pioneering Sudanese art movement that proposed entirely new directions for art in Sudan in the 1970s. Participants delved into the artistic and historical context of the school and produced artworks using the "crystalline language." The workshop was held at Medrar for Contemporary Art and in Alexandria at Wekalet Behna.

The Crystalline School, whose 1976 manifesto states: "The crystal is nothing but the negation of the reification of things, it is eternal transparency." The project adopts a crystalline intention to dissolve the contradictions between appearance and essence, studying the value of the image's dissolution. The microscopic and macroscopic nature is revealed through gestures such as scrolling, zooming, tapping, and swiping, exposing cyclical patterns and infinite extensions. At the end of the workshop, a production exhibition was held, bringing together participants from Cairo and Alexandria.
